Capítulo 8 - 5 - Desertion

Avery Angus - POV:

The boys aged wonderfully and it became a pleasure for me to watch. First came crawling, then walking and before i knew it, they could say their first words. But good things come to an end and the circumstances behind the brothers' conception would begin to catch up to them.

At around age 2, Soterios would begin to show strange qualities. From growling at his brother to sleeping under his bed and worst of all the occasional blue charged glow. At first I pretended that growling and sleeping in dark tight corners was normal but when he began glowing i knew something was wrong.

When i took Soterios to the doctor's, he was already on standby with a mage. Aldmer, an Elder Mage of the Magic Council, to be exact. Aldmer would immediately take Soterios and Cain with him to a back room. I would try to follow but was cut off by the doctor shaking his head. Later the children would be brought back however this time they had pendants around their necks.

"Never attempt to remove these pedants!" Aldmer commanded.

"Also, i hereby banish you and your children from the heart of Oakhevia."

I stood dumbstruck for quite a few seconds before finally blurting out, "You can't-"

"Yes! I can! Now remove your presence!" Aldmer retorted as he disappeared into the darkness.

It was difficult and painful to start over from scratch, but for their sake, i swallowed my pride and threw out my comfort. We travelled to a small town on the edge of the kingdom, Ironhaven, and took residence.

As the boys grew, so did my love. They lived normal human lives; going to school, playing with other children, eating sweets and all things childish. Everyday that they would return from home i would be overjoyed and my heart would skip a beat as Soterios smiled with his baby blue eyes, "We're back mama!"

In no time he was bringing home girls already while only a mere 4 years old.

He and Cain had grown close to a cute, lovely human girl, Csilla.

The days past smoothly until that faithful night of misery. The night portrayed an eerie darkness. The full moon exuded a faint glow but was choked by the onset of dark, vertically elongated clouds. This rapidly gave way however to bright orange hues which engulfed the streets and alleys.

"Crash!" A stone flew through my window followed by another and then another. I could audibly hear the grunts and shouts of the mob outside. I peered through the window to see the congregation of men and women forming armed with torches, swords, pitchforks and other weapons. "Get the Dragon's whore!" they chanted.

"Bang!" I could hear the front door being rammed. Soterios ran into my room with Cain. "What's happenning mom?" he quickly questioned. I grabbed them pulling them into my chest for a hug, "Shh." Tears dripped slovenly down my face.

"Crack!" the door downstairs gave way and i could hear the ocean of people begin to flood into the house and up the stairs. Grabbing up Soterios and Cain i stood on the sill of my now opened window. The townspeople burst into my room.

"Get down from there bitch!" one bellowed.

With a single backwards glance i mustered my old strength and leapt from the building landing with a thud on the adjacent roof. I ran helter-skelter upon the tiled apex of the houses, still hugging onto my children.

"SHIT!" i shouted as the tiling slipped off the roofing and i fell with it, taking the impact on my back to protect Soterios and Cain on the front. I took a second to catch my breath but the angry mob was quickly approaching. With a tearful cry i hid the children in a small back alley and slinked away. As i ran i could feel my being getting crushed under the pain and guilt of leaving them behind. Wiping my eyes i disappeared into the shadows of midnight.
