Prologue:
King Taneta sighed and rubbed his temples as his wife gave him a pitying look.
"Thats quite enough gentlemen" Queen Hanata spoke above the increasing chatter. At once the summer council members stiffened and turned back to their rightful seating positions.
"Thank you dear." Taneta whispered to her, then cleared his throat and turned to adress the council. "Alright, I understand the situation is a bit stressful, but-"
"Yes, a formal declaration of war is, 'stressful'" cut in a council member.
"Thank you, Anite. As I was saying, I understand the situation is stressful, but we must not suddenly lose all composer. Does the letter specify the reasons for such rash movement from the winter court?" Taneta questioned.
"Yes, they say it is becuase of their daughter's death. They say that there is sufficient evidence to conclude that the Summer court had ordered for her death, quoting the letter that is" piped up another council member.
"Their eldest daughter? Sonhai? She is... dead?" The Queen cut in.
"That is what they say" replied the member in a sad tone. The Queen absently placed a hand on the quarts necklace resting on her collarbone for comfort. She had known Sonhai as a child, and was quite fond of her. To believe her dead...
"Such a travesty, but why should they think we took part in ordering it?" The king asked, hiding his true expression. He must keep his composure in front of his council.
"Becuase they have liked us least for generations, i see no surprise in it" commented Anite. The king gave her a severe look and nodded to the other council member to answer.
"I shall quote the letter, 'Our daughter's death comes as nothing less than a devistation, and we have reason to believe your court ordered it. There was no body found, but a sign of struggle. You have many Prophets among your ranks, the likes of which could easily have captured her and simply killed her without a trace. We are aware all the courts have Prophets, but you house seven, while Spring and Autumn only hold five, and we bear merely four. We have also collected fragments of Summer Gaurd uniform at the scene, and there was excessive heat present.'" The council member completed his quoting to complete silence. Finally, the King spoke up.
"There are only three options I see. There has been a mistake, which I hope is true, we have been framed, or... there is a double crosser among us." The king finnished. The silence in the room was deafening. Not a single breath was to be heard, or the squeak of someone shifting in their chairs as they all looked around with a mixture of shock, anger, and confusion on their faces. The Queen stood and adressed the room.
"Rest assured we shall find out which it is. If there is a double crosser, it will mean treason. The only suitable punishment for this would be death" she announced. The whole room stiffened even more if possible, the council members eyeing each other warily. Could it be one of them?
